Introduction
This article is to guide you resetting (and performing the configuration steps after resetting) the XPrinter, which may be necessary after changing WiFi networks or when setting up a new XPrinter for your operations.
XPrinter Reset & Configuration
Configuring an XPrinter consists of 3 parts that have to be completed in this order:
- Resetting the Printer
- Reconfiguring the Printer
- Setting a fixed IP address
PART 1: Resetting The Printer
Step 1.
Turn OFF printer's power button.
Step 2.
Hold the Feed button in front of the printer and turn ON the printer while holding the Feed button (hold the Feed button until your hear 2 “beep” sounds).
Step 3.
You can let go of the Feed button after the 2nd “beep”.
Step 4.
A receipt will be printed.
Step 5.
Do check the receipt that the details are as follows to confirm that the printer has already been reset:
- IP Address: 192.168.123.100
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Step 6.
If the receipt details do not match as above, you have to repeat steps 1 to 4 until the receipt displays the above details.
Definition of terms
IP address stands for internet protocol address; it is an identifying number that is associated with a specific device or computer network. When connected to the internet, the IP address allows the computers to send and receive information.
IMPORTANT: A good point to remember is each device should have its own IP address, and they have to be in the similar network range to see other devices within the same range. This is how the XPrinter (device) is detected via the StoreHub App (connected to WiFi network).
Why do we do this?
These steps are to reset the printer’s IP address (or identifying number) to it’s default setting, which is 192.168.123.100. Only then can we proceed to the next part, which is to reconfigure the printer’s IP address so that it can be identified by the router’s WiFi network range.
PART 2: Reconfiguring The Printer
Step 1.
Now that the printer has already been reset, please proceed to the iPad.
Step 2.
On the iPad, go to Settings > WiFi > Connect to your WiFi on the iPad.
Step 3.
Tap the blue ⓘ icon.
Step 4.
At the WiFi Settings, select “Manual” and key in as below:
- IP address: 192.168.123.2
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Step 5.
Click Save.
Step 6.
Next, go to the Safari web browser and type in 192.168.123.100 and tap “Search”. It will lead you to the XPrinter Configuration page.
Step 7.
Select 'Configuration' which can be seen on the top left.
Step 8.
Select ‘DHCP Client’ > Click Save.
Step 9.
Select Restart (there should be a beep sound from the printer when you press Restart).
Step 10.
Next, proceed to iPad > Settings > WiFi > Select the blue ⓘ icon and change Configure IP to Automatic.
Step 11.
Click Save.
Step 12.
Force quit the StoreHub app (double tap the round Home Button on the iPad and swipe the StoreHub app upward) > Open the StoreHub app again.
Step 13.
Go to Settings > Printer > Search Printer.
Step 14.
Try searching a few times if you don't see it immediately.
Step 15.
You should be able to see LAN Printer on the printer option.
Step 16.
Click on the printer name once it’s displayed.
Step 17.
Toggle Receipt Printing ON and then press Print Test Receipt to test if the paper comes out.
Why do we do this?
This step is done to manually change the printer’s IP address. By reconfiguring this address, you can allow the printer to be detected by the WiFi network from a router. This means when your POS register (iPad or Android terminal) is connected to the same WiFi network, you’ll be able to search and detect the printer’s IP address in your StoreHub App.
PART 3: Setting A Fixed IP
Step 1.
Always check to see if your iPad is connected to the router’s network.
Step 2.
If the customer does not use the StoreHub ASUS router, the support team should be consulted before attempting to change the settings in this article.
Step 3.
Always remember to turn the router ON first. If the router is not fully active, the devices cannot communicate with each other.
Step 4.
On the StoreHub app > Settings > Printer page, note down the IP address of the printer you wish to configure. This will be used to access the Printer Configuration page. In this example, it's 10.1.2.50.
Step 5.
Exit the StoreHub App.
Step 6.
Look for the Safari app on your iPad home page and open it.
Step 7.
Type the IP address obtained previously in the StoreHub App (example “10.1.2.50”) into Safari’s search bar.
Step 8.
The printer configuration page should appear.
Step 9.
Click on ‘Configuration’ on the top left.
Step 10.
Now you will see the printer is set as “DHCP Client”.
Step 11.
If it is set as anything else, please refer to Tier 2 Escalation team for further guidance.
Step 12.
To set the IP address for the printer, follow these steps:
1. Select the Fixed IP Address dot.
2. Press Save.
3. Re-enter your IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address again because the XPrinter will cause the numbering to misalign.
4. After re-entering the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address, press Save again and then Restart.
Why do we do this?
This final step is done to secure or “lock” your printer’s IP address to the WiFi network from a router. Completing this step will ensure your printer can always be detected in your StoreHub App whenever you connect an iPad or Android terminal to the same WiFi network.
Step 13.
Once you see this page below, you can turn OFF and turn ON the printer.
Step 14.
This completes the XPrinter reset and configuration process.
