(New BO) How to Set Up Bixolon Label Printer

How to set up labels, create barcodes, and connect your Bixolon label printer to your point of sale register.

What You Will Learn in This Guide

  • A step-by-step guide for you to set up your Bixolon label printer; put in the sticker roll and connect it to your Register.

  • To create barcodes for your products using Bixolon: LabelArtist app.


Important Note

  • To use the Bixolon: LabelArtist app, it is recommended to use Windows operating computers or laptops.

  • Bixolon: LabelArtist app does not support macOS; MacBook & iMac.

  • Bixolon: LabelArtist app is not recommended for use on iPad and Sunmi devices as the setup steps are complex.

  • If you do not require barcodes, click here.



Sticker Setup

1. Slide down the two side tabs on the printer.

2. Stretch the sticker roll holders to insert the roll between holders and let go to allow the spring to clamp the roll in place.

3. Slide the roll into the L-shaped paper guides as shown below.

4. Close the lid, wait until the green/yellow LED stops flashing and press the Feed/Cancel button.

5. Download the Bixolon: LabelArtist app to your computer or laptop; click here.

Notes: This app is also available on both Sunmi and iOS devices, using the same name; Label Artist.

6. Plug in the USB cables that connect your Bixolon printer and computer or Sunmi Register.

Note: If you are using the LabelArtist app on your iPad, use the LAN cable to connect your Bixolon printer and router; the ones that you bought with StoreHub or on your own.


Edit/Create Barcodes on LabelArtist Windows program (Microsoft Windows)

1. In your BackOffice, click on Products.

2. On the Product Page, click on Export to CSV.

3. You will need to convert your CSV file to a TXT file.

To do this, open your downloaded CSV file on Microsoft Excel:

  • click File

  • then click Export

  • then click Change File Type

  • select Text (Tab delimited)

Note: Do ensure that you know where you download the TXT file as you will need to use it later.

4. Download the Bixolon Label Artist on your computer by clicking here

  • then scroll to Application

  • tick Label Design

  • click Download

5. Switch on the Bixolon printer, then connect it to your laptop using the USB cable; open the downloaded Label Artist II app.

6. Open the downloaded Label Artist II app, then select the Bixolon SLP-DX220 printer from the list and click Next

7. Printing Preferences will pop up then, adjust the sizing of your label sticker and click OK

8. A blank page will appear and you may start to edit your label sticker.


9. Then, click on Database, then click Connect Database

10. Click Microsoft Excel FIle (*.xls, *.xlsx) and choose Tab

11. Upload your TXT file; the ones that you have exported in Step 2, by clicking Browse and once the data is populated, click Finish

12. You may create your label sticker by inserting Text and Barcode and aligning them according to your preference

13. Double-click the first text box to edit, then tick Link Database, then choose Product Name from the field list, and click OK twice

Notes: You may repeat this step if there are multiple Text on your label creation and you may choose a different data format in the Field List.

14. For barcodes, you may repeat Step 12 but choose Barcode in the Field List

Notes: You may also set the types of barcodes style you want in this step.

15. After you are done creating your label sticker, click File, then Print..., then click Print Label

16. If you wish to reuse this template again, click Yes to save the template.

17. Your label sticker should look as below:


Edit/Create Barcodes on LabelArtist app using iPad or Android Register

A CSV file of your product is not necessary here; as you need to create the label sticker one by one.

1. On the LabelArtist app, click Basic Label

2. You may start designing your customised barcodes.

Notes: The design you put will be displayed on your label sticker.

3. Adjust the size of your label creation by clicking the Gear icon; next to the Printer icon click size under Label settings

4. Tap the + icon to begin your creation; you may input text and barcode

5. To edit any object you inserted; such as text and barcodes, click the letter A on the right side of the screen or double-tap the object.

Notes: Remember to click on "Confirm" once you are done with the creation.

6. Once you are done, click the Printer icon to print your label

7. If you would like to save your creation, click the three-dotted icon on the top right side of the screen and click Save and click Yes

8. Your label sticker should look as below:


Connection To POS Registers

For Android Registers

1. Connect your Android Register and Bixolon printer using the USB cable.

2. On your StoreHub app, go to Settings, then tap Printer, then tap Search Printer

3. Tap on Bixolon SLP-DX220 and toggle on the associated item that you would like to print using this printer; such as Drinks


For iPad Registers

1. Connect your Bixolon printer and router; either the ones you bought with StoreHub or your own router, using the LAN cable


2. On your iPad, go to Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and then connect to the StoreHub network

3. Then, on your StoreHub POS app, go to Settings. tap Printer, then tap Search Printers then tap LABEL

4. Add your preferred kitchen label to the printer; such as Drinks if you want to have a printed label on it
